Global attention shifted to climate change, community and the law last month, after a Dutch court ruled their government must take more action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The Dutch government’s emissions reduction target by 2020 was 17% of 1990 levels, but the court ruled this wasn’t good enough thanks to a class action by Urgenda and 900 community members. What a great effort and result, we say!In an Australian first, Urgenda director Marjan Minnesma is coming to Brisbane and joining forces with EDO Qld and EDO NSW to highlight opportunities for community and legal climate action in Australia.

It’s no secret the Australian Government is failing us when it comes to climate change laws and emission reduction commitments (just a 5% reduction on 2000 levels by 2020).

How do we work together to hold government accountable? Can we do what the Dutch did last month in Australia? How can we restore our objection rights for high emission projects like coal mines?

Join EDO Qld and EDO NSW, who have been at the forefront of working with the community on climate change litigation in Australia for over a decade, with our special guest and colleague to find out how we can make climate law happen.

With the Paris Climate Change Summit just around the corner, there has never been a better time to act!
