Environmental Protection (Greentape Reduction) and Other Legislation Amendments Bill 2012

06 June, 2012

EDO’s Jo Bragg spoke on this Bill to the Qld Agricultural, Resources and Environment Committee on June 6.

Based on our experience advising community groups, EDO Qld argued that due to major impacts and concurrent projects, extended timeframes are needed for public submissions on coal seam gas and mining applications under the Environmental Protection Act 1994.

Why should the standard timeframe for public submissions on mining activities and coal seam gas activities be 20 business days – when for major developments under the Sustainable Planning Act 2009 the timeframes are up to 30 business days for urban projects with less impacts?
