Have your say on future development in the Galilee Basin

17 February, 2014

The Queensland Government is proposing to declare the Galilee Basin a State Development Area, which gives Queensland’s Coordinator-General very broad powers in the area, including the power to acquire land and control land use to the exclusion of any other Act, law or regulatory scheme.

The end date for comments is 5pm on Friday 28 March 2014.

Ultimately, a document called a ‘Development Scheme’ will determine how applications for development (including mining and railways will be made) and whether public consultation is required and whether there are any appeal rights regarding development in the area.

All comments must be in writing.

You should:

  • clearly state the matter(s) of concern or interest
  • provide any factual information relied upon and its source
  • suggest measures you consider would be appropriate to inform the proposed Galilee Basin SDA and draft development scheme
