Saving a bushland ridge at Seventeen Mile Rocks

In the outer southwest suburbs of Brisbane there is just one ridgeline above the Brisbane River that is still covered with remnant native bush. That ridge was protected because a local community group had the gumption to challenge a proposed development in court, represented by EDO Qld.

Commonly referred to as the ‘bible for environmental litigants’, EDO Qld’s Community Litigants Handbook provides a step-by-step guide to conducting a planning appeal in the Queensland Planning and Environment Court. In the foreword to the Fourth edition of the Handbook, Judge Michael Rackemann of the Planning and Environment Courts says the Handbook “has proven to be an invaluable resource” and that it “makes a real and substantial contribution to access to environmental justice.”

Saving Queenslands Bush

EDO Qld is proud to have acted as legal advisers to the campaign run by Queensland Conservation Council, The Wilderness Society, WWF Australia and the Australian Conservation Foundation that finally brought an end to broadscale clearing of remnant vegetation in Queensland.
